SABINO Marius-Ernest

SABINO Marius-Ernest

Marius Ernest Sabino (1878-1961).

Very rare pair of sconces by Marius Ernest Sabino (1878-1961), coming from the actress and singer Jennifer Lopez estate,
France, 1930.

Structure in light yellow lacquered metal covered with a long shade in two-tone silk.

The base has one crystal disc enclosed between two yellow/green glass plates. The edge of the crystal disc is intentionally jagged to juxtapose the two smooth, flat edges of the glass plates. The base (under the glass plates) is oxidized patinated brown brass.

The structures are refinished in a light yellow lacquer, the same color than the original one. One of the pictures in this listing is showing the original condition of the sconce structure before refinishing.
The shade has been custom-made in two tons of silk.

Measurements: H 29"1/4 x W 5"3/4 x D 4"

Provenance: Prince de Galles hotel, Paris.
Provenance: Jennifer LOPEZ estate.

Originally, these sconces had intricate glass shades instead of the silk shades (one of the pictures in this listing will show this).
It became more convenient for the hotel to have typical lamp shades because the glass was too fragile.

The wiring has been changed to a new system of two US fluorescent tubes. You can control the brightness of the sconce by having either one or two tubes turned on.
